On the second sublevel of the Ministry of Magic.
George stepped out of the magical elevator, crossed two heavy oak doors, and before him appeared an open room divided into several small cubicles.
Here is the Auror headquarters, where each cubicle is occupied by an Auror.
"Hey, George!"
A few Dursleys, led by Tonks, who used to frequently eat for free at his shop, leaped up joyfully and ran over upon seeing George appear at the doorway.
"I never would have guessed that you joined the Ministry of Magic, and you're even in the same department as us! I wouldn't have believed it if it weren't for me checking with the department head."
When she received a letter from George saying he would report to the Ministry of Magic today, she really thought he was joking.
Although she was also at Hogwarts that day, as a newly promoted Auror, she was mainly responsible for perimeter patrol and wasn't aware of what Fudge and George were discussing inside.
And she had signed a confidentiality agreement, so she couldn't tell anyone what had happened that day.
So she didn't know that George had passed the Ultimate Wizardry Exam, graduated early to join the Ministry of Magic.
At that time, she was amazed by George's strength, that he could subdue Sirius Black and a professor from Hogwarts, and part of her attention was also focused on the professor himself.
Because the professor looked quite nice.
"I never expected to graduate and work so soon."
George and Tonks hugged and smiled.
Fortunately, there is no law against the hiring of child wizards in the wizarding world, or else he wouldn't have been able to work for the Ministry of Magic so soon.
After a brief exchange with Tonks and the others, he crossed the Auror office hall and entered the area of the Department of Magical Misuse.
There were three corridors branching off here.
At the end of a dimly lit and decrepit corridor was the Department of Magical Misuse office, which consisted of just two wizards: one was Ron's father, Arthur Weasley.
The other, slightly brighter and cleaner corridor led to the Department of Quality Control, where low-grade defense spells and protective equipment were investigated and confiscated. There were about 15 wizards inside.
The last corridor led to the headmaster's office of the Department of Magical Misuse, which was where George was to report.
The door wasn't closed, and as he walked a few steps in, a pink-themed room appeared before him.
Rich lace trim and various cat-themed decorations gave it a far cry from the decor of a proper head of department's office.
Sitting at the desk was a middle-aged witch, nearing forty, with a wide, fleshy face, and her short curly hair was adorned with a small black velvet bow.
Particularly that pink dress, which looked incredibly eye-catching.
Being old and ugly wasn't a problem, but an old and ugly woman dressing in such a childish manner was just too out of place.
If it weren't for him just starting at the Ministry, and being unable to directly step up to replace her, he really would have wanted to make this woman disappear today. She was too distracting to look at.
Of course, Umbridge's life expectancy will depend on her attitude going forward.
If he were to continue treating him in a manner similar to how he appears in the original story, George would not mind making him disappear sooner rather than later. He has plenty of ways to work his way up the ladder.
Even without promotion, it's not a big deal. His main purpose is to gain experience at the Ministry of Magic, to better learn and understand the magic of this world. Being promoted would just make his experience more interesting.
If he wanted to be simple and straightforward, he could learn from Voldemort and cast the Killing Curse directly to control the higher-ups of the Ministry of Magic.
With his strength, he could control the Ministry of Magic even better than Voldemort, but that would not be conducive to learning.
"Excuse me, is this Umbridge, the Head of Department? I am the new assistant, George."
George stood at the door and knocked. Umbridge raised her head and gave an extremely fake smile.
"George, come in quickly, the Minister has already informed me about you."
She dared not look down on George as an assistant. The Minister had personally come by yesterday to instruct her to treat him well, clearly showing great appreciation for him.
Moreover, she had reviewed George's records, and he was indeed very impressive with exceptional strength. He was about to receive an award soon.
In fact, this was not the main thing. The main thing was that George's background was very solid. It wasn't just that the Minister appreciated him, but Dumbledore had also written a recommendation letter personally. The Deputy Director of International Magical Cooperation Bureau had spent a fortune building relationships across various departments during this period.
It wasn't by strength or ability that she had climbed from a lowly cleaning assistant at the Ministry to the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. She had relied on various acts of fawning and sycophancy.
If George were an ordinary graduate, she would make him her personal slave. If he dared to disobey her orders, she would ensure that he never made it in the Ministry.
But George was clearly not just another graduate. She would have to adopt a different attitude.
"At such a young age, you've achieved so much. No wonder the Minister admires you so much."
After completing the onboarding process, Umbridge couldn't help but squint her eyes at George.
Her words sounded like praise, but in reality, her inner self was extremely envious.
She thought back to when she first joined the Ministry of Magic, how much suffering she endured, how much flattery she had to do, and how many sacrifices she made to earn her current position. And George was only twelve years old and had already become her assistant.
Even further, he might even be able to replace her as the head of the department.
"That's a threat."
She wouldn't cause trouble for George openly, but she also wouldn't give George a chance to prove himself and eventually take her place unless she advanced further to the position of Deputy Director.
"George, since you just started working, don't worry about doing anything for now. Just get to know your colleagues and I will call you if necessary."
She let another assistant wizard find a place for George to work in the external office area, and then Umbridge didn't bother with George anymore.
George was someone she needed to be vigilant about, but not someone she needed to pay too much attention to. Her main competitor right now was the Head of the Auror Office, Rubeus Hagrid.
So she has been playing up to the Minister, flattering and manipulating him, trying to guess his thoughts.
George was happy to be idle as well, even though he was only a ghost now, he didn't want to waste time on mundane tasks.
He visited various departments, made friends, and learned about their applications of magic. Before he knew it, the morning was over.
And by the time he arrived at work in the afternoon, he was summoned by the Minister, as the press conference had begun.
This press conference was attended not only by the top brass of the Ministry of Magic, but also by Dumbledore, representing House Gryffindor, and Sirius himself.
"Now, please welcome the greatest hero of this incident, the assistant of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic, our little hero George."
Under Fudge's enthusiastic voice, countless magical cameras kept flashing. George, wearing a small-sized suit, stepped onto the stage.
