Chapter 169: The Manifestation of Maitreya Bodhisattva

Genres:Martial Arts and Xianxia Last update:25/03/24 18:05:36
Liuxi City is located about 30 to 40 miles away from the foot of Mount Emei.

This city, being close to the sacred grounds of Daoism and Buddhism represented by Mount Emei, has a majority of its residents worshipping Daoist and Buddhist deities.

Such figures as Guo Chengzi, the embodiment of Laojun; Tianshen Huangren; Lu Dongbin, his elder brother of Chen Yun; and Puxian Bodhisattva, etc. Additionally, there are numerous Daoist temples and Buddhist monasteries on Mount Emei. Immortals and monks frequently go to the city to spread the teachings, receive and impart knowledge, solve doubts or dispel confusion, or serve the world with their medical skills. The religious atmosphere is particularly thick.

However, this city, which is so close to the sacred sites of both Taoist and Buddhist religions, has now turned into a place resembling hell.

In the sky at a height of kilometers, dark clouds shrouded the sunlight, covering the sky almost densely with them, like raging waves.

The dark clouds rolled in, seemingly ready to collapse at any moment, causing a chilling effect.

What is even more despairing is that around the city, there are countless thin and dense black beams of light, as if in curves, shooting straight up to the sky, tightly connected to the dark clouds overhead.

From a distance, it looks like the Milky Way has been broken, rolling down and covering the entire Liuxi City from top to bottom like a solid black umbrella.

People inside the "big black umbrella" not only feel pitch black, dense and no sunlight, hot and steamy, but also frequently experience chilly winds, ghostly wailing and howling.

The terrifying scene is like the end of the world.

All 200,000 people in the city have reached their utmost despair.

On the east side of the city, there is a Zhou family of great wealth.

Zhou gentleman and his family of 18 people, plus the dozen or so servants, all gathered nervously in the hall.

    "Seven days!"

"Today is the seventh day already!"

"If Chen Pu doesn't show up again, the demon will really beheading the city!"

"Wah, I don't want to die."

The women were crying together in a heap.

Even though Zhou Gentleman had lived in the south and the north, seen many things, and was very knowledgeable, when he saw the black gas floating outside, he also showed a look of despair.

He never imagined that Liuxi City, which had always been peaceful, would suddenly be invaded by a demon seven days ago. The demon, without saying a word, set up an evil array and enclosed the entire Liuxi City. He shouted at Mount Emei every day, saying that if Chen Pu did not appear within seven days, he would slaughter the twenty million people in Liuxi City.

At the time, the common people in the city didn't take it seriously at all.

After all, Liuxi City is close to Mount Emei, and there are many Daoist temples and Buddhist monasteries in the mountain.

Surely the so-called "living immortals" have astonishing Daoist or Buddhist powers and could easily defeat a demon head, right?

Indeed, on that day, many Taoists and monks flew to Mount Emei. They first scolded the demon, and then, as the demon remained unmoved, the Taoists and monks took turns to confront him.

    Then...

    Hmm, no then.

The Taoists and monks were lightly beaten to the point of spewing blood and fleeing in disarray, and severely, they were knocked from the sky and fell down, with no word of their fate known since then.

Although the demon had never truly killed anyone in front of anyone, the people in the city believed that those Taoists and monks who fell from the sky, either due to being beaten or falling, had been eaten by the demon.

Zhou Gentleman sat on the big chair, trying his best to keep his face calm, but the shaking hand at the back of the chair revealed his true feelings.

He looked at a beautiful woman, "Yao'er, Master Du is in Shu territory, has he arrived yet?"

The fifteen or sixteen-year-old girl, called Yao'er, remained calm and composed, and respectfully replied: "My master has not arrived yet, but the commotion here is quite intense. If he hears about it, he will definitely come."

At this point, Yao'er's beautiful face, which was as radiant as dew, revealed a look of resentment. "It's a pity that I have not practiced the Tao for long and have not received my master's true teachings. Otherwise, I would have definitely cut off the demon!"

Zhou Gentleman didn't even respond to his daughter's second sentence, but simply looked relieved and said: "With Master Du's arrival, my Liuxi City will be worry-free."

"Yes, Master Du is the current leader of the Daoist sects in the mortal world."

"He also holds a position in the royal court, so he must be able to cut down that detestable demon."

"It is said that Master Du is an apprentice of Yingyi Yanshi of the seventh generation of the Maoshan branch of the Shanxing Pai. He is also a fifth-generation disciple of Mr. Ma Chengzhen, and has profound Daoist powers that can move heaven and earth and make the ghosts and gods weep. As he is currently in my Shu territory, Liuxi City will certainly be safe."

The women, upon hearing the words "Master Du," stopped crying.

The remaining group also became spirited.

It seemed as if Master Du had already defeated the demon even before his arrival.

Everyone was this way simply because they knew that "Master Du" was powerful.

Master Du's real name is Du Guangting, his character is Shengbin, and his title is Dongyingzi.

In his early years, he studied Confucianism, but later abandoned it and followed Daoism. He became a disciple of Yingyi Yanshi, the seventh generation of the Maoshan branch.

After practicing Daoism on the rooftop, Emperor Xingzong of the Tang Dynasty heard of Du Guangting's reputation and summoned him to the imperial court, bestowing him with a purple robe, making him an official in Lgendary Palace and an inner contributor.

Due to the An Lushan Rebellion, Du Guangting followed Emperor Xingzong into Shu territory, saw the decline of the Tang dynasty, and decided to stay in Shu and not return.

Du Guangting dedicated himself to promoting Daoism among the mortals and gained a great reputation in secular Daoism. Currently, he is respected as the leader of the secular Daoist sects.

Of course, his high reputation is not solely because of his role as an official in the imperial court and his promotion of Daoism.

Du Guangting's cultivation is extremely profound. Not only in the secular world, but even in the world of cultivation, he is at the top level. He is an upper-grade wizard.

All the people Chen Yun met, such as Zhongli Quan, Lv Dongbin, Xie Rumen, and Chen Rongqin, were all sacred. Wang Laozhi and Zheng Wenxun were master-level or real human, and even Cao Ruojin and Wang Zaixi were high-level priests and upper-grade wizards.

From this, it can be seen that upper-grade wizards seem not worth mentioning.

In fact, that is not the case.

It is extremely rare for someone to reach the level of an upper-grade wizard.

It is not common to see such figures in the world of cultivation. Especially in this secular realm.

It can be said that the impression of upper-grade wizards among the secular people is almost no different from that of saints; they are both possessing great power to control the winds and clouds, and move mountains and seas.

Now that they hear that the renowned high-level wizard Du Guangting might come to subdue demons and fight ghosts, Zhou family members naturally feel that they have a good chance of winning this battle.

Unlike the Zhou family, who were greatly excited.

The 200,000 people of Liuxi City had no idea that Du Guangting might come to their aid. Each one was at the pinnacle of despair, praying for the deities to descend and save them.

"Master Guo Chengzi, our entire family follows your teachings. Now our Liuxi City is in a critical situation, please come down to subdue the demon and save us!"

"Puxian Bodhisattva, you are on Mount Emei. Please save us."

    "Chunyang Immortal..."

    "Tianzhen Huang Ren..."

The people were all praying to the sacred beings in their despair.

It's not clear if it's a response to their thoughts.

Just when everyone was in despair.

Suddenly, the sky above Liuxi City was illuminated by a golden light.

This golden light is magnificent and majestic, as if it has coated the entire world with a layer of gold.

In the instant the golden light rose, there were also waves of mantras resounding, piercing through to the ears of the 200,000 people in Liuxi City. Even the deaf seemed to hear the mantras deep within their hearts.

The people of Liuxi City who felt the unusual phenomenon rushed to look outside.

They could see a Buddha made of Buddha light floating in the sky, whose origin they could not trace.

The Buddha was over twenty meters tall, sitting in a meditation posture with eyes slightly closed, and had a wheel of merit behind it.

The overwhelming radiance was emanating from the Buddha and covering the entire city.

Everyone watched this scene and involuntarily held their breath.

    Because everyone recognized the Buddha.

It was the sacred image of Miaolai Buddha!

Could it be that……Miaolai Buddha had descended to subdue demons and expel evil?

The 200,000 people of Liuxi City felt an overwhelming joy in their hearts.

If it were truly Miaolai Buddha's descent, how could a mere demon dare to harm them?

    ……

Three miles outside the city, in the forest.

Yin Wuji was sitting cross-legged on the ground, looking crazy, "Kill! Kill Chen Pu!"

Seventeen or eighteen lifeless-looking Taoists and monks were lying on the ground not far from him.

These people appeared to be dead, but in fact, they were only under the spell of Yin Wuji and had fallen unconscious, not truly killed by him.

At this moment, suddenly a beam of Buddha light shone, and a monk appeared in the distance out of nowhere.

Yin Wuji's eyes, glowing with an unnatural red, immediately turned towards the monk who had appeared suddenly.

The monk was bare-chested, showing his abdomen, and had a smile on his face. He had a sack on his back, and he was emitting strong Buddha light all over his body.

When Yin Wuji saw the monk, he seemed to have difficulty controlling his power, causing black qi to surge out of his body wildly.

At the same time, it seemed as though the appearance of the monk carrying a sack had somehow "awakened" him.

Although Yin Wuji's eyes were still unnaturally red, they had calmed down somewhat, and he spoke in an unfriendly tone: "Baghuang Laoren, are you also blocking me?"

The monk carrying the sack did not become enraged because of Yin Wuji's possession, on the contrary, he smiled and said: "Yin Layman, you have not committed any crimes, so naturally I will not harm you. I came here today with no intention of using force against you. However, if you dare to take anyone's life, rest assured that I will intervene without hesitation."

Yin Wuji bit his teeth and glared at him, "Though it is said in the world that you are the incarnation of Maitreya Buddha, but now your cultivation is no better than mine. Do you really think you can interfere with my Yin Wuji's affairs?"

The monk carrying the sack didn't show any signs of anger, and still smiled kindly: "You can try it."

Yin Wuji watched as the monk carrying the sack stood up, from which infinite Buddha light began to emanate, and even took on the form of Miaolai Buddha. At that moment, his malevolent qi kept rising, but he still dare not attack the monk.

The reason for his hesitation was not because of any other reason, as he had said earlier; the world is full of rumors that the monk carrying the sack is an incarnation of Miaolai Buddha.

Miaolai Buddha is an important figure in Buddhism.

He is the future Buddha, said to be the super-boss who will take over Shakyamuni Buddha's position in the future.

Imagine the cultivation level of someone who can become the "heir apparent" in Buddhism. It must be tremendous and awe-inspiring.

Even if the monk carrying the sack is only one of the rumored incarnations of Miaolai Buddha.

On the surface, his cultivation seems no better than that of an upper-grade wizard.

Yin Wuji still felt very cautious and dare not act rashly.

Of course, he felt fear in his heart, but he didn't show it in his words.

Yin Wuji spoke menacingly, "In one hour, if Chen Pu that little scoundrel doesn't come, I will massacre the 200,000 people of Liuxi City today. Whether it be you, Baghuang Laoren, or the many Taoist temples and Buddhist monasteries on Mount Emei, none of you can stop me!"

As he spoke, a swirling black qi shot up into the sky, forming a hideous and ferocious ghost king in the air.

On the other side, the holy image of Miaolai Buddha, shrouded in golden light, exudes a sense of inviolability.

On the other side, the illusion of the Ghost King, with black qi swirling sky-high, appears fierce and terrifying.

The holy image and the ghostly figure stood opposite each other in the distance, as if they were predicting that in an hour, if Chen Yun did not arrive, Baghuang Laoren would engage in a fierce battle with Yin Wuji.

The 200,000 people of Liuxi City watched the holy image of Miaolai Buddha and the ghostly figure of the ghost king. Everyone was filled with tension.

They all placed their hopes of escape on the shoulders of Maitreya Buddha.

Of course, they all hope that Maitreya Buddha can subdue this terrifying giant demon, Yin Wuji.

At this moment, the monk carrying the sack seemed to sense something and turned his head to look towards the eastern direction.

Yin Wuji responded slightly slower, but it was only a moment.

He used his blood-red eyes to look towards the eastern horizon.

At first, the boundless horizon seemed to be empty.

But in a flash of an eye, the clouds were instantly illuminated by the rosy glow.

The qi was misty, the rosy glow radiated in myriad beams, resembling the waves of the sea, rolling and tumultuous, surging towards Mount Emei at a rapid pace.

A tall and imposing figure, a dignified, towering figure in green robes, was soaring through the clouds and mist, ethereal as an immortal. His heroic figure emerged gradually.
