If Hong Xiuquan's father in heaven is called Hao Tian Shangdi, then the God worship religion becomes a heresy of Confucianism, an indigenous Chinese sect that has absorbed some elements of Christianity. And Hong Xiuquan, the "son of Hao Tian," is now a "Tianzi" (divine son)!
Xianfeng, the salted duck head, also claims to be the "Tianzi" (Son of Heaven) himself?
So the struggle between Hong Xiuquan and Xianfeng becomes a battle of who is the true son of Tianfu and who is the false son of Tianfu. As Xianfeng, a foreign prince, can't be more authentic than Hong Xiuquan.
In addition, the Chinese side has always been relatively tolerant of heresy and paganism. The root of Confucianism is a school rather than a religion. Confucius and Mencius are saints rather than gods. The scholarly knowledge of the school and the teachings of the saints can be discussed. For example, whether "nature is inherently good" or "nature is inherently evil," or whether "grasping things and knowing them" or "the heart is reason," can all be discussed.
Throughout history, there has never been a religious war fought over the scholarly viewpoints of the Confucian school. If Zeng Guofan, the evil head, were to try to stir up the lower-level intellectuals against the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom using the name of "defending the teachings and protecting the path," his reasoning would also be very weak.
