A Death Eater, without even invoking the Dark Magic, could cause hundreds of Muggles to die and billions of pounds in Muggle property to be damaged with a few simple cutting spells.
And the entire crime could take no more than two minutes.
It is sheer fantasy to think that complete prevention can be achieved.
"Monitoring mirror-"
At the staff dining table, under the curious gaze of the professors, Ammosta spoke calmly.
"Ah-"
Professor Flitwick cheered up,
"What a great idea!"
By now, the professors were all very familiar with Ammosta's invention, which had played a vital role in the last year's Triwizard Tournament. The school had showcased the brave performance of the champions to their audience through this invention.
Dumbledore's azure eyes gleamed for a moment, but then he quickly regained his composure.
"I think, since you haven't proposed this plan to the department, it must be because there are undeniable drawbacks, Ammosta?"
"Cost-benefit ratio, Headmaster Dumbledore --"
Ammosta sliced a greasy, juicy sausage from his plate, speaking calmly.
"You all know that such things as monitoring mirrors are of little use in small quantities, and if we were to fully cover a city like London, it might require tens of thousands of them. Even if we only consider the cost, it would still require millions of galleons."
Millions of galleons!
The Ministry of Magic and the Goblins are not investing so much in the new magical city.
It is indeed not valuable to spend so much money just to fortify London.
London is not the only large city in the United Kingdom. The Midlands' Birmingham, the northwest of Manchester and Liverpool, and Scotland's Edinburgh.
In addition to the scattered villages and small towns spread across the vast wilderness.
There are plenty of places where Death Eaters can take pleasure in their evil acts, even if the Ministry of Magic were to declare bankruptcy.
"In fact, Muggles have their own technology similar to monitoring mirrors--"
Ammosta mused as he spoke.
"If the Muggles' government were to carry out a large-scale implementation, I think there would be great resistance. After all, not many people would be willing to have their every word and action exposed to the government's eyes."
"Even if the Muggles' government were willing to cooperate with the department, this is not something that can be achieved overnight, Ammosta--"
Dumbledore said, as Ammosta nodded slightly.
Ammosta continued to think about this all the way back to his office.
They cannot ignore the lives of Muggles, but devoting all their energy to preventing Muggles from being harmed seems somewhat shortsighted to the witches and wizards in power.
It is unrealistic to widely deploy monitoring mirrors, but it is feasible to produce a limited number of them and distribute them in important locations—such as the residences and workplaces of the Muggle Prime Minister and various ministers, as well as key civilian infrastructure.
This would also be beneficial for preventing Death Eaters from infiltrating the Ministry of Magic. Some monitoring points could be installed around Hogwarts, as well as in Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest.
Having quickly written a letter about the tragedy that occurred in the Muggle world, Ammosta wrote his alertness and suggestions into the letter, called a cat owl to deliver it, and then hurriedly walked out of his office.
Ten minutes later, Ammosta appeared at the door of the PE class room, and the students were already in place.
NEWTS classes.
There were not many students in the classroom, but those who had passed the basic training and had already reached the sixth grade were all there.
"Good morning, everyone..."
Ammosta casually waved his wand, causing the chairs, desks, benches, and even the teacher's desk to float up from the corner and neatly arrange themselves in the classroom.
"Qiuer--"
Fred whistled in admiration, impressed by the effortless yet stylish display.
The Weasley twin brothers, several senior girls from Gryffindor's team, Cedric from Hufflepuff, and Zhang from Ravenclaw were all there. There were only about ten students in Ammosta's first ever NEWTS class.
"Thank you--"
Ammosta placed a magical book on the podium and laughed lightly.
"Well, how was everyone's first week of school?"
The answers were scattered, with everyone sharing their feelings about returning to school in the past few days, but all of them were in high spirits.
"I heard --"
Fred raised his hand.
"That meditation course? Professor Lahensen said it was you who advocated for Hogwarts to offer such a course?"
"Oh, indeed."
Ammosta smiled and nodded.
"What do you think of Professor Lahensen's meditation course? Does it help you?"
"Oh, I'm not sure, Professor Bran. We've only had one class --"
Fred said,
"But if Professor Lahensen continues to train us in zoning out."
There was a light laugh in the classroom.
"Oh, yes. It's not easy to start, but I'm quite sure Professor Lahensen can help you take another step further."
Ammosta smiled.
"And how about you, Professor Bran?"
Ellia propped her chin on her hand, curious and eagerly asked,
"Can you understand meditation?"
"Oh, I can't, but I don't need to learn it anyway--"
Ammosta said.
"Why?"
"Paths are many, but they all lead to the same destination, Ellia. I have my own path. Well, enough chatter. Let's get back to class."
The curtains were suddenly drawn, and torch after torch was lit, adding a mysterious atmosphere to the spacious PE class room.
So far, in the PE class or officially named Duel Training class, they had gone through numerous rigorous training. Each one was tough to endure, but it was also very exciting!
Everyone was eagerly watching Professor Bran, speculating about the next round of challenging training that would begin in the NEWTS class.
However, Professor Bran's next action disappointed everyone.
On the podium, Professor Bran waved his wand, and a pile of thick magical books appeared in the air with a bang. The books automatically went into each student's hands.
The hardcover books were black with a flowing silver-green font on the cover: "Analysis of Common Incantation Patterns."
The author's name engraved in the middle, slightly lower down, surprised the Weasley brothers, who looked at the book with a tired expression.
"Is this your book?"
Cedric looked at Professor Bran with admiration.
"Yes, that's right --"
Ammosta's tone was calm and gentle,
"This is a magical book that I compiled myself, but it has not been sold in the market."
He walked around the podium and appeared in front of the students, pacing back and forth.
"So far, you have undergone rigorous training in this class, and from my perspective, these trainings have equipped you with a certain self-defense ability. Most adult witches and wizards probably wouldn't be your match --"
The students straightened their chests and looked proudly.
After all, this is an honest compliment from Amostar Bran!
"But if you want to make further progress, it will be very difficult --"
Ammosta's next words caused the students' hearts to cool slightly.
"You want to improve your dueling skills and break free from constraints, there are only two ways -- either, you can join the front line against evil, and under the refinement of blood and fire, perfect your skills that you have already learned..."
That was impossible. Although they were grown-ups, they were still just students who hadn't graduated.
Hogwarts couldn't possibly send them into battle for experience.
"And the other--"
Ammosta, sitting on the podium with his butt against it, slapped his book next to him and smiled.
"That is to solidify your foundation and truly understand the magic you have mastered."
"What do you mean?"
Autumn Zhang from Ravenclaw widened her eyes slightly,
"Do you mean we need to relearn all the spells?"
"To some extent, you could say so --"
Ammosta crossed his arms,
"However, my requirements are higher than Professor Flitwick's. I will lead you to deeply analyze the pattern structures of the spells you have learned, helping you understand the significance of each part of the pattern structure, and afterwards, I require you to create your own magic based on this foundation --"
Ammosta grinned 'fierce' at the students, who were sweating profusely.
"If you can't come up with something satisfactory, I may not let you graduate from Hogwarts easily --"
